Add a daily multiple vitamin-multi mineral supplement, along with a vit. C-1000 mg; vit. E-200 i.u.; vit. D-400 i.u.; B complex with folates; and a calcium-magnesium supplement for strong bones, further help to do the job. (People with health problems should clear the use of supplements with their doctors.)
Alcohol and coffee, caffeinated sodas, deplete vital bodily minerals and should be used in moderation.
Daily walks, oxygenating with deep breathing in the fresh air, and other forms of exercise are tremendous aids to health and to better assimilate foods that boost the immune system..

Winter is a great time for hearty, hot home made soups, so I am offering one of my favorite 'comfort' recipes, that I find to be healthy and enjoyable.
THE TREE OF LIFE COOK BOOK

"Love That Soup" ..Mushroom, Barley, Bean
A medium pot (approx. 3 qts.)
of purified water.
Fresh from the market:
A bunch of parsley
4 skinny carrots
4 celery stems
1 med. potato
1 med. onion
3 pieces of garlic
Fresh dill weed -
(if not available, use dried.)
8 oz. sliced mushrooms
1 large ripe tomato
1/2 cup navy or lima beans
2+1/2 cups barley
8 meatless meatballs (optional) -
found at health and specialty shops.
Salt & pepper to taste..
Add 2+1/2 cups washed barley .
and 1/2 cup washed, dried and
uncooked beans (optional), to
a medium potful (approx. 3 qts.)
of purified water that is brought to
a rapid boil; stir and lower to a .
med. heat, and cover.
Thoroughly scrub the carrots,
parsnip, potato, celery, tomato,
leaving on the skins,
and chop in med. pieces.
Wash the parsley, fresh dill, mushrooms,
peeled garlic and onion; chop, and rinse all
of the vegetables in purified water in a
large strainer, and set aside.
The barley should cook for at least an hour,
covered, at medium heat, and if using
dried and uncooked beans, added at the
start with the barley, more cooking time
is needed before adding the rest
of the ingredients.
Skim the residue from the top and
when the barley (beans) are fairly soft,
add in the other ingredients and stir. Already
cooked beans and the chopped dill, should
be added last, 1+1/2 Tablespoons of
dill, on top and after the stirring.
Cover and cook at med./low heat until all
of the ingredients are soft and blended together
in a semi-thick broth. More purified water
may be added and stirred in as the
This is a great dish to prepare and let
simmer overnight at low heat for the
next day's family dinner.
Adding the meatballs before heating
and serving, and when served with a
nutritious loaf of warm, crusty whole grain
bread and butter, makes for a complete,
hearty, healthy, and satisfying meal, high in
vitamins, minerals and fiber, to fend off
the winter chill.
